Dental Procedure
on Sep 9 2021, 09:23 AMChoosing between Invisalign® and other treatments can be a difficult decision. Multiple options are available to correct crooked teeth, but aligners have some benefits that you can feel good about. As you consider the advantages of this orthodontic care, you can see why this treatment makes sense. Your dentist can also determine whether you are a good candidate for aligners.
Clear aligners are not a new treatment, but the method continues to grow in popularity. This plastic mouthpiece closely resembles teeth-whitening trays. The aligners fit over the teeth of both the upper and lower jaws. The appliances put gentle, constant pressure on the teeth, forcing them to move into the correct positions. To ensure the aligners fit properly, the general dentist will take X-rays and make a 3D model of the teeth.
Aligners typically handle mild to moderate orthodontic conditions. These include misaligned teeth, bite abnormalities, and crowded teeth. This treatment can also take care of small gaps in the mouth. The treatment length can be as short as six months but is usually between 12 and 18 months.
Removable mouthpieces
Some orthodontic methods, such as braces, are permanent during the treatment period. The dentist will take them off once the teeth are straight. However, Invisalign aligners are removable. This convenience allows the patient to take them out during such times as meals or for cleaning. This treatment does not require the patient to wear the aligners 24 hours a day. Instead, the patient can leave them out for two or three hours daily.
Cleaning the aligners
People who wear braces can have difficulty with oral hygiene. Food can get trapped in between the brackets. It is also challenging to brush and floss with braces. Another benefit of Invisalign is that the patient can clean the appliance without much trouble. All it takes is to rinse off the aligners with warm water a few times a day.
A comfortable fit
Braces can be an effective solution to reviving a smile. One of the drawbacks of this method is that the brackets can irritate the mouth. There can be soreness in the gums. The patient may experience cuts on the cheeks or tongue. It can be especially frustrating to wear braces while playing sports or being involved in other physical activities. A bump to the face can cause the braces to cut into the lips or cheeks.
Invisalign is different. This option is more comfortable. The plastic material will not irritate the mouth or cause soreness. It can take a few weeks to get used to. However, after this time, the patient can grow accustomed to them
You do not have to agonize over the decision of whether to choose Invisalign. There are clear benefits that this treatment provides. Along with a shorter treatment length and a discreet method, you will love the advantages. Aligners are comfortable and convenient. You will also enjoy the results of having a new smile. Call your dentist today and make an appointment to discuss what you can do to get started.
